Alan L. Bird DEFIANCE – Alan L. Bird, of Defiance, died 9:15 p.m., Sunday, December 29, 2024 at MHPN Mercy Hospital, Defiance. He was born September 26, 1948, in Defiance to the late Clyde and Maxine (Markle) Bird. On February 19, 1977, he married Evalee Gilliam, who survives in Defiance. He is also survived by 5 children: Paul (Amberiee) Bird of Ney, Richard (Megan) Bird of Defiance, Lori (Christopher) Springer of Archbold, Stephanie (Philip) Glassley of Bluffton, IN and Anthony (Ashla) Bird of Continental; 15 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a great-grandchild, Jace Bird; and a sister, Vivian (Bill) Segur. Alan grew up in Dupont, Ohio and graduated from Continental High School. He retired in 2013 from General Motors, Defiance. He was a member of the UAW Local 211 and attended Bethel Christian Church in Arthur. Over the years, he also served as a church usher at First Assembly of God in Defiance and Family Christian Center in Defiance. Alan was an avid bowler, bowling in two leagues. He enjoyed woodworking, making furniture and Christmas gifts for his family. Alan loved spending time with his friends and family. Funeral services will begin at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 4, 2025 at HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Oakwood with Pastor Christopher Baker officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Dupont. Visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
