Alan F. "Whitey" Salisbury
CONTINENTAL - Alan F. "Whitey" Salisbury, 90, of Continental died at 1:35 a.m. Thursday, January 31, 2013 at Defiance Regional Hospital. He was born October 8, 1922 in Putnam County to the late Floyd and Alta (Dunlap) Salisbury. On April 15, 1942 he married Leota Marie Strite who died November 12, 2003.
He is survived by 4 children: Terry (Diane) Salisbury of Defiance, Donelda Prowant, Charlene Finch, and Lisa (Mike) Hinkle all of Continental; 8 grandchildren; 4 step grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren: 7 step great-grandchildren; a step great-great-grandchild; a brother: Dale (Lavern) Salisbury of New Port Richey, FL.; 2 sisters: Sandra (Ben) Smith of Leipsic and Eva Jane (Bill) Radabaugh of Ottawa; and 2 sisters-in-law: Velma Salisbury and Donna Salisbury. He was also preceded in death by a son-in-law: William Prowant; 3 brothers: Glen, Jerry and Paul Salisbury; and a sister-in-law: June Salisbury.
Whitey retired in 1985 as a millwright for General Motors in Defiance. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Continental. He attended Miller City High School. He was a friend to all and loved by many. Whitey will be missed by everyone who knew him.
Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Sunday, February 3, 2013 at HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Continental with Rev. Terry Porter officiating. Burial will follow in Monroe Cemetery, Continental. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. on Saturday and from noon until the time of service on Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Continental EMS, Continental Fire Department, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
