Alfred T. "Peanuts" Ellerbrock
KALIDA – Alfred T. "Peanuts" Ellerbrock, 102, of Kalida died at his home surrounded by his family at 10:04 p.m. Thursday, February 23, 2012. He was born May 18, 1909 in New Cleveland to the late William and Mary (Otto) Ellerbrock. On October 9, 1935 he married Marcella P. Hermiller who died July 20, 1978.
He is survived by 11 children: JoAnn (Eugene) Otto of Ottawa, Marilyn (Ted) Sealts of Fort Jennings, Donald (Janet) Ellerbrock of Columbus Grove, George (Marilyn) Ellerbrock of Columbus Grove, Thomas (Ruth) Ellerbrock of Columbus Grove, Eugene (Marge) Ellerbrock of Kalida, Janice (Sam) Golden of Lima, Dennis (Karen) Ellerbrock of Kalida, Gerald Ellerbrock of Kalida, Christine (Dennis) Horstman of Cloverdale, and Michael (Barb Niese) Ellerbrock of Kalida; 33 grandchildren; 72 great-grandchildren; 2 step-great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-granddaughter; and his Jack Russell Terrier faithful companion: Zim.
He was also preceded in death by a grandchild; a great-grandchild; 2 brothers: Philip and Gilbert Ellerbrock; and 2 sisters: Amelia Ellerbrock and Susanna Kahle.
Peanuts was a life-long farmer and a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, Kalida and its Holy Name Society and the Ottawa Eagles. He was a promoter of Devotion of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, a volunteer at Putnam Acres Care Center where he was "Volunteer of the Year"
in 2001; a volunteer at Calvary Manor Nursing Home, Glandorf, and was a St. Michael elementary school prayer partner for many years. He was well known for his famous baked beans. Peanuts 101st birthday was announced by Willard Scott on the Today Show.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at St. Michael Catholic Church, Kalida with Fr. Mark Hoying officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 2 to 8 p.m. Monday at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Jackson Township (on the corner of St. Rt. 224 and 634) where there will be a Holy Name service at 7 p.m. on Monday.
