Alfred A. "Al" Horstman, Jr.

OTTAWA – Alfred A. "Al" Horstman, Jr., 71, of Ottawa, died at 4:15 p.m. on Saturday, October 2, 2021 at the Meadows of Ottawa with his family by his side.  He was born on July 26, 1950, in Lima to the late Alfred and Leona (Roof) Horstman, Sr. On May 23, 1970, he married Sandy Henry at Christ Lutheran Church, Continental. She survives in Ottawa.

Other survivors include three children:  Aaron Alfred Horstman of Ottawa, Nathan (Jen) Horstman of Ottawa and Monica (Jason) Slattman of Continental; ten grandchildren: Andrea (Jay) Main, Kylie (Kirk Schlegel) Horstman, Kelsie (Brent Osbun) Horstman, Camryn (Nathan Dal Polo)  Horstman, Adison, Nolan and Owen Horstman, Jaxson, Alexi and Carson Slattman; seven great-grandchildren:  Ava, Sawyer, Silas, Amelia, Mariah, Stella and Asher; five brothers: John (Shirley) Horstman of Continental, Steve (Ginny) Horstman of Cloverdale, Denny (Trish) Horstman of Glandorf, Gary (Angie) Horstman of Kalida, Dale (Carolyn) Horstman of Cloverdale; a sister-in-law: Debi Horstman of Lewis Center; and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by his stepmother, Bessie; Leona's companion, Jake Spitnale; his brother, Phil Horstman; a nephew, Travis; a niece, Renee; and a great nephew, Austin.

Al graduated from Ottoville High School in 1968. He retired from Lima Ford Engine Plant after 38 years. He was a member of New Creation Lutheran Church, Ottawa, the VFW,  American Legion and Eagles all of Ottawa. He drag raced on many strips in Ohio and Michigan. The first one being on Cascade Bridge, Cloverdale. He loved bowling for many years and bowled a perfect 300 once.  Al was a huge fan of NASCAR and the awesome Bill Elliott from Dawsonville.

Funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at New Creation Lutheran Church, Ottawa with Pastor Ken Pollitz officiating. Funeral service will be live streamed on New Creation Lutheran Church's Facebook page.  Burial will follow at Monroe Cemetery, Continental. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa, and again on Wednesday one hour prior to the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Putnam County CAP or Putnam County Homecare and Hospice.
