Alice A. Brinkman
KALIDA – Alice A. Brinkman, 94, of Kalida, passed away at 3:29 p.m. on Friday, July 15, 2022 at her residence. She was born May 8, 1928 in Ottoville to the late Frank and Elizabeth (Calvelage) Pohl. When she was in the 7th grade she went to live with Caroline and Frank Wurth, who raised her through high school. On November 16, 1946 she married Thomas Brinkman, he survives in Kalida.
Alice is also survived by twelve children: Gus (Judy) Brinkman of Kalida, Fred (Sylvia, deceased) Brinkman of Lima, Sam (Lora) Brinkman of Abeline, TX., Greg (Kathy) of Wheatfield, IN., Lauretta (Lester) Miller of Auburn, IN., Anthony "Tony" (deceased) (Sandy) Brinkman of Ottawa, Mike (Cindy) Brinkman of Arlington, Mary Brinkman (Tim Brown) of Pflugerville, TX., Rose (Ed) Long of Radnor, Len (Cathy) Brinkman of Wimberley, TX., Charlie (Sue) Brinkman of Elida, Joe (Kristy) Brinkman of Findlay, Ron (Marianne) Brinkman of Ottawa; forty nine grandchildren; one hundred five great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; a sister: Katie Hermiller; two half-sisters: Carol Satler and Ada Bucher; and a step-sister: Mary Ann Van Sickle.
She is preceded in death by brothers: Robert Pohl, Gilbert Pohl, Norbert Pohl, and Barney Pohl; sisters: Ruth Wegesin and Lenora Pohl; half siblings: David Pohl, Rita Stanfield, Tom Pohl and Joseph Pohl; and step-siblings: Harold Kleman, Irene Okuley and Richard Kleman.
Alice was a 1946 graduate of Kalida High School. She worked at the Kalida Water Department in the billing department. Alice had also worked as a cleaner at Putnam Acres, and loved to talk to the people there. Alice and Tom were married for 75 years. She was very devoted to the Blessed Virgin Mary, and had made two trips to Our Lady of Medjugorje. Alice was also very devoted to her family. She enjoyed making sock monkeys and banana cakes. Alice loved animals, especially hummingbirds. She had a big love and knowledge of flowers. She also enjoyed playing games and making crafts. Alice took care of the church linens for St. Michael's Catholic Church for over 50 years.
Funeral Mass will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 19, 2022 at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Kalida with Father Scott Kramer officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. A visitation will be held on Monday from 2 to 8 p.m. with a rosary service beginning at 1:45 p.m. and again on Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Jackson Township.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Words of the Harvesters.
