Alice Shepler
TOLEDO - Alice Shepler, 84, of Toledo, formerly of Ottawa died at 11:49 a.m. Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at her residence.  She was born March 26, 1931 in Wapakoneta to the late Philander Rufus John and LaVera Mildred Elizabeth (Sibert) Sammetinger. On December 28, 1951 she married Roal Eugene Shepler, Jr. who preceded her in death June 4, 1999.
Alice is survived by 4 children: Roal E. (Denise) Shepler III of Findlay, Lori Winne of Erie, MI, Sharon Common of Northville, MI, and Jeffrey (Nancy) Shepler of Edgerton; 9 grandchildren: Shauna Shepler, Ericka (Michael) Mann, Amanda (Christopher) Hartley, Alicia Winne, Phillip Common, Paige Common, Jared (Carol) Shepler, Jeremy Russell, and Mathias Shepler; and 4 great-grandchildren: Max and Georgia Hartley and Meleah and Taylor Mann. She was preceded in death by 2 brothers: Howard and Neal Sammetinger, a grandson: Roal E. (R.J.) Shepler IV, and a nephew: Karl Sammetinger.
Alice taught school at Edgerton Middle School for 28 years. She graduated from Blume High School in Wapakoneta in 1949, received her Bachelor of Education from Bowling Green State University in 1965, Summa Cum Laude. Alice and her husband traveled all over the United States and 6 continents. She enjoyed gardening and quilting. Alice received the Outstanding Senior Citizen of Putnam County in 2008.
Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa with Pastor Lynda Lockwood officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Wapakoneta. Memorials may be made to the Ottawa Senior Citizens Center, Heartland Hospice, or Putnam County Hospice.
