Alphonse H. Maag
OTTAWA - Alphonse H. Maag, 81, of Ottawa died 11:00 p.m., Friday, April 15, 2016 at his residence. He was born May 23, 1934, in Glandorf to the late Leo and Margaret (Feltman) Maag. On January 8, 1955, he married Mary Lammers and she survives in Ottawa.
Other survivors include three children: Rebecca (Rob) Strauer of Glandorf, Terry Maag of Jefferson, GA and Jim (Lisa) Maag of Ottawa; ten grandchildren: Melanie Heringhaus, Ryan Strauer, Andy Strauer, Sean Strauer, Megan Fought, Jodi Niese, Alison Walther, Wesley Maag, Jacob Maag and Kelsey Maag; thirteen great-grandchildren: Brennan Niese, Alexa Niese, Jenna Niese, Jackson Heringhaus, Maya Heringhaus, Emma Heringhaus, Blaize Heuerman, Kash Heuerman, Knox Strauer, Ellieana Strauer, Jessalynn Strauer, Malia Fought, Matthias Fought; a brother: Valens (Ruth) Maag of Ottawa; three sisters: Jeanette Heckman of Glandorf, Alvera Laubenthal of Ottawa and Anna Mae Thomas of New Bavaria; and his pet: Happy.
He was also preceded in death by three brothers: Alvin Maag, Leonard Maag and Don Maag; and a sister, Esther Vennekotter.
Alphonse retired after 36 years from Ford Motor Company in Lima, and spent his retirement as a Walmart Greeter in Ottawa. He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa, Ottawa Eagles, Leipsic Fish and Hunt Club and the NRA.
A Mass of Christian burial will begin at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa with Fr. Matt Jozefiak officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa. Memorial donations may be made to the Putnam County Pet Pals.
