ALPHONSE C. SCHROEDER
NEW BAVARIA/COLUMBUS GROVE - Alphonse C. Schroeder, 88, of Columbus Grove, formerly of New Bavaria passed away 8:50 a.m. Tuesday morning, August 19, 2014 at The Meadows of Kalida. Al was born August 2, 1926 near New Cleveland to August and Frances (Maag) Schroeder, both deceased. He married Angela Klear, who survives at The Meadows of Kalida, on August 2, 1950 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, New Bavaria celebrating 64 years of marriage with the love of his life.
Mr. Schroeder was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, New Bavaria for 35 years before moving to Columbus Grove where he is currently a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, Columbus Grove. He was a Realtor, Auctioneer, Land Agent, and a licensed Real Estate Broker for over 37 years, retiring in 1997. He conducted auctions and sold real estate primarily in Putnam, Henry, Defiance, and Allen Counties. He was an avid golfer, card player, and a member of the Ohio Polka Boosters, St. Anthony's Knights of Columbus, The Parents of Priests-Diocese of Toledo, and a Marriage Encounter alumnus. He was also a former member of the Northwestern Ohio Board of Realtors, the Ohio Auctioneer's Association, and the Miller City Sportsmen Club.
Al was a devoted father to five sons and six daughters: Rev. Roger Schroeder SVD, Chicago; Gloria Hermiller, Columbus Grove; Marty (Linda) Schroeder, New Cleveland; Denny (Jayne) Schroeder, Leipsic; Anne (Dwain) Schroeder, Columbus Grove; Phyllis (Bernie) Kleman, Columbus Grove; Karen (Dane) Newlove, St. Marys; Joan (Karl) Schimmoeller, Ft. Jennings; Elaine (Alan) Schroeder, Columbus Grove; Karl (Sue) Schroeder, Columbus Grove; and Roy (Kim) Schroeder, Glandorf; 34 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and one on the way; a brother: Donatus (Margaret) Schroeder, rural Holgate; two sisters: Junilla Karhoff and Ruth Klear both of Glandorf; and his in-laws: Mary Snyder and Juanita Klear both of New Bavaria; Norbert (Mary Ann) Klear, Ottawa; Deacon Ken (Mary) Klear, North Creek; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son-in-law: Leonard Hermiller; and his in-laws: Gene Klear, Virgil Karhoff, Rita and Leo Gerschutz, Joe Klear, and Paul and Lucille Klear.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 22, 2014 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Columbus Grove with Rev. Roger Schroeder officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday and 2 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa where there will be a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Memorials may be made to Putnam County Hospice or Right to Life.
