Alvin "Bud" Duling
OTTAWA – Alvin "Bud" Duling, 89, of Ottawa, passed away at 12:24 p.m. on Sunday, July 17, 2022, at Mercy Health St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima. He was born November 23, 1932 near Glandorf to the late Frank and Anna (Palte) Duling-Maag. On May 3, 1958 he married Shirley Hoyt and she survives in Leipsic.
Other survivors include six children: Peg (Virgil) Studebaker of Troy, MO, Joseph Duling of Bluffton, Pam (David) Zinsmeister of Gurnee, IL, Donald Duling of Leipsic, Gregory (Kathy) Duling of Silver Spring, MD and Christina (Sam) Walther of Leipsic; fourteen grandchildren: Todd (Jami) Studebaker, Derrich (Justine) Funiciello, Brandy (Craig Oliver) Duling, Kevin Zinsmeister, Paul (Colleen Stoyes) Zinsmeister, Dustin Duling, Keri Duling, Amber Duling, Logan Duling, Hannah Duling, Allyson Duling, Lorenzo Walther, Tyler Walther and Kash Walther; twelve great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and a sister-in law: Dorothy Duling.
Alvin was also preceded in death by a stepfather, Raymond Maag; a son, Keith Duling; and five siblings: Zita (Victor) Ruhe, Leander (Dorothy) Duling, Angela Duling, Ralph Duling and Elmer Duling.
Bud worked for Pierman Farms and the Ottawa Feed and Grain for 36 years. He was a US Navy Veteran during the Korean Conflict. Bud was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa, Ottawa American Legion, Ottawa VFW and Ottawa Eagles. He enjoyed constructing 3D models, playing cards and cruising on his scooter.
Memorial mass will begin at 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 25, 2022 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa with Fr. Scott Kramer officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites by the Ottawa American Legion, VFW, Amvets and DAV. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa with a VFW service at 7:00 p.m. and scripture service at 7:50 p.m.
