Alvin H. Horstman

KALIDA – Alvin H. Horstman, 61, of Kalida died 5:50 a.m. Sunday, December 6, 2020 at Mercy Health St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima.  He was born November 6, 1959 in Lima to the late Virgil and Clara (Wehri) Horstman.

Alvin is survived by 3 children:  Meredyth, Cooper and Spencer Horstman, all of Kalida; 10 siblings:  Kenny (Diana) Horstman of Ottawa, Christina Heckman of Glandorf, Julie (Don) Schroeder of Glandorf, Harold (Barb) Horstman of Kalida, Bill (Patti) Horstman of Kalida, Kathy (Gary) Moening of Glandorf, Dave (Julie) Horstman of Kalida, Melvin (Lois) Horstman of Kalida, Teresa (Greg) Knueve of Kalida and Barb (Dave) Neidert of Kalida; 29 nieces and nephews and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

He is preceded in death by an infant sister: Mary Horstman, a brother-in-law:  Ken Heckman and a nephew:  Brandon Horstman.

Alvin was a life-long farmer and had worked for Remlinger Manufacturing for 45 years.  He was a proud member of the Kalida Lions Club, the Kalida K of C and St. Michael's Catholic Church, Kalida.  He was a former den leader for the Kalida Cub Scouts, Pack 221.  Alvin was an avid train enthusiast and collector.  He enjoyed working on cars, snowmobiling and four-wheeling.  He was, without a doubt, the best dad in the world.

Alvin's funeral mass will be 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Kalida with Father Mark Hoying officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service at church.  Due to COVID-19 restrictions, masks and social distancing are required upon entering the church.  The arrangements are by the LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Jackson Township.

In lieu of flowers, that family ask that you honor Alvin's memory by always wearing your mask to protect yourself and others during this COVID-19 pandemic.  Memorial contributions may be made toward the Horstman children's education at the Union Bank Company, C/O Alvin's Kids Memorial Fund.
