Bernard J. "Bernie" Rosengarten
Glandorf - Bernard J. "Bernie" Rosengarten, 87 died 3:08 a.m. Saturday, August 29, 2015 at St Rita's Medical Center. He was born June 1, 1928 in Leipsic, Ohio to the late Henry and Frances (Kreinbrink) Rosengarten. On October 28, 1952, he married Doris Mae Duling who survives in Glandorf.
He is survived by 4 sons: Dennis (Nancy) Rosengarten, Dale (Theresa) Rosengarten, Gary Rosengarten, all of Glandorf and Mark (Jane) Rosengarten of Ottawa, 1 daughter: Jane (Jerry Newell) Schimmoeller of Glandorf; 9 grandchildren: Mandy Verhoff, Matthew Rosengarten, Amy Sanchez, Jillian VanDam, Ryan Rosengarten, Douglas Rosengarten, Adam Rosengarten, Kirk Schimmoeller, and Britnee Reynolds; 13 great- grandchildren and 2 special bundles on the way; 2 brothers: Linus Rosengarten of Leipsic and Jerry (Lucretia) Rosengarten of Ottawa. He was preceded in death by 8 brothers: Art, Virgil, Norman, Carl, Thomas, Jack, Albert, Henry;  and 1 sister: Sally Recker.
Bernard retired from Philips after 40 years of service (1949-1989). He was an Army Veteran serving in the Korean Conflict, earning a Purple Heart. He was a member of St John Catholic Church in Glandorf; it's Holy Name Society; a life member of the Knights of Columbus; Ottawa American Legion; VFW and DAV where he was past commander. He was also member of  Ottawa Eagles, Glandorf Rod & Gun Club and Quarter Century Club.
He was very involved with the VFW participating in military funerals, helping with  BINGO, chicken and fish frys and speaking to the Glandorf Elementary students every Veteran's Day for 25 years. He loved going to the casinos with his brothers and his wife even though luck wasn't always on his side. He was a master of many jokes, making people laugh and laughing at himself. He enjoyed family time at Clear Lake cottage for 33 years and took pride in his beautiful vegetable and flower gardens. He loved sharing the bounty of his garden with his family and friends and was the happiest when he was busy.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 1, 2015 at St John Catholic Church, Glandorf, with Fr. Tony Fortman officiating.. Burial will follow in St John Cemetery with military rites by Ottawa VFW Post #9142; Ottawa American Legion Post #63 and Ottawa AMVETS. Visitation will be held from 2-8 p.m. Monday at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa, where a military service will be held at 7:00 p.m. and a rosary service will be held at 7:30 p.m.
Memorials may be given to St John's Catholic Church.
