Bernard H. Brown
MILLER CITY – Bernard H. Brown, 90, of Miller City, died at 5:30 a.m. Friday, February 17, 2012 at Putnam Acres Care Center, Ottawa. He was born May 3, 1921 in Putnam County to the late John and Edith (Johnston) Brown. On May 3, 1941, he married Norma A. Schmitz. She died April 1, 2000.
Surviving are eight children: Joyce (John) Fenbert of Leipsic, Gary (Rosemary) Brown of Miller City, Dennis (Edna) Brown of Ottawa, Allan (JoAnn) Brown of Miller City LeRoy (Margie) Brown of Miller City, Kathy (Bernard) Meyer of Ottawa, Carl (Marjorie) Brown of Miller City and Arnold (Donna) Brown of Miller City; 36 grandchildren, 61 great-grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Henrietta Brown of Ottawa. He is preceded in death also by a sister: Stella Wagner and two brothers: Albert Brown and Nelson Brown.
Bernard was a retired farmer. He had worked for Campbell Soup Company, Napoleon, where he was a Union Steward and also Hancock Gas and Mac & Rita's in Miller City.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, New Bavaria. He was a former Palmer Township Trustee, Miller City Fireman and High School Baseball Umpire. He was also a member of Ottawa Knights of Columbus, Miller City Sportsman Club and loved the Detroit Tigers.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 20, 2012 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, New Bavaria with Fr. Stephen Stanbery officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, North Creek. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Leipsic, where a Knight of Columbus service will be at 7:00 p.m. and a scripture service at 7:30 p.m.
