Betty Jean Holtkamp

KALIDA – Betty Jean Holtkamp, 94, of Kalida, passed away at 10:06 a.m. on Thursday, June 1, 2023, at the Meadows of Kalida.  She was born November 15, 1928, in Kalida to the late Leonard and Gertrude (Morman) Drerup.  On May 26, 1951, she married Eugene E. Holtkamp, who preceded her in death on January 12, 2000.

Betty is survived by three children: Gretchen Ballinger of Elida, William Holtkamp of Lima, and Laura Shuler of Galion; two grandchildren: Shane (Amy) O'Connell and Shannon Jackson, both of Lima; five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; three sisters: Mary Nordhaus of Mundelein, IL., Marilyn Marsh of Swartz Creek, MI., and Ann (Marvin) Stechschulte of Findlay and two sisters in law; Rita (Denny) Maag and Virginia Holtkamp both of Kalida. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by a son-in-law, Gary Ballinger and in-laws: Donald Holtkamp, Dorothy (Tom) Smith, Irma (Nolan) Krouse, Joan (Joseph) Pequignot.

Betty worked as the Kalida High School Secretary for 37 years.  She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church.  She had taken great care of her husband Eugene who was a quadriplegic for 39 years, and she also cared for her elderly aunts. Betty volunteered at the Meadows of Kalida, as well as St. Michael's Catholic Church.

Funeral Mass will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 10, 2023, at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Kalida, with Fr. Rick Friebel officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  Arrangements are under the direction of LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Jackson Township.
