Betty E. Maag
LEIPSIC - Betty E. Maag 89, of Leipsic died at 3:23 a.m. Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima. She was born June 18, 1926 in Glandorf to the late Ignatius and Mary (Ricker) Hovest. On June 18, 1947 she married George F. Maag who died December 28, 1984.
She is survived by six children: Mary Wick of Big Bend, WI, Donna (Mike) Grone of Falls Church, VA, Jerry (Teresa) Maag of Leipsic, Jean (Tim) Collet of Glandorf, Joan (Corey) Nason of Marietta, GA, and Cindy (Ken) Landwehr of Kalida; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and one on-the-way; and three sisters-in-law: Dottie Hovest of Glandorf, Beatrice Hovest of Ottawa, and Pat Hovest of Glandorf. She was also preceded in death by two grandchildren: Alaina and Mia Landwehr; four brothers: Richard (Lenore) Hovest, Donald Hovest, Stanley Hovest, and Greg Hovest; and a son-in-law: Tom Wick.
Betty was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Leipsic and its Altar Rosary Society and Catholic Ladies of Columbia. Betty sang in the choir for fifteen years. She was also a member of the Ottawa Eagles Auxiliary and a 4-H Advisor for several years. She enjoyed playing cards, gardening, music, sewing, and canning.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 23, 2016 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Leipsic with Fr. William Pifher officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. on Friday and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Leipsic where there will be a Altar Rosary and CL of C service at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Memorials may be made to the Parish Life Center or to St. Mary's Catholic School.
