Betty Jean Thompson

CLOVERDALE – Betty Jean Thompson, 78, of Cloverdale, passed away at 8:15 a.m., Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at Lima Memorial Hospital. She was born October 26, 1947, in Defiance to the late Arthur “Daniel Boone” and Pearl (Teegarden) Grindstaff. She married Arthur Thompson, who survives in Cloverdale.

Other survivors include 4 children: Tammy (Jeff) May, Arthur (Cynthia) Davis, both of Grover Hill, Angela (Jay) Knouff of Van Wert and Rodney (Rachel) Thompson of Buckland; 14 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Betty was a homemaker and previously worked at the Morning Star in Melrose. She was a member of Zion Christian Union Church in Grover Hill. Betty loved going to church, gardening, nature, birdwatching and spending time with her family.

Funeral services will begin at 1:00 p.m., Friday, October 23, 2026, at HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Oakwood with Pastor Dan Newell officiating. Burial will follow in Middle Creek Cemetery, Grover Hill. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday prior to the service at the funeral home.
