Brandalyn Marie Hamel

OTTAWA - Brandalyn Marie Hamel, 30, of Ottawa, passed peacefully at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with leukemia on Sunday, September 17, 2023.  Brandalyn was born on June 16, 1993 in Lima, Ohio. She is the daughter of David and Mary (Carr) Maas of Pandora.  On June 19, 2021, she married the love of her life, Michael J. Hamel.

Brandalyn is survived by her two brothers: Jonathan (Lisa) Maas of Wichita, Kansas and Benjamin (Samantha) Maas of Lima.  Brandalyn is also survived by her father-in-law and mother-in-law: Michael and Jean Hamel of Glandorf, and brother-in-law and sisters-in-law: Nathaniel Hamel of Billings, Montana, Alexandra (Tyler) Thomas of Findlay, Angela Schultz of Findlay and Emily (Noah) Paxton of Marion.  Brandalyn had 11 nieces and nephews: Abigail Maas, Emmalyn Maas, Addison Hooker, Thomas Maas, Judson Maas, Lily Schultz, Grace Schultz, Jaxon Thomas, Rosalynn Thomas, Maddox Thomas, and Scarlett Paxton who is due in October.

Brandalyn was a 2013 graduate of Pandora-Gilboa Local Schools. She worked at Kalida Manufacturing Inc. as a robotic welder.  Brandalyn was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and was a Mass Server for 15 years.  Brandalyn was an avid Star Wars fan, loved flying planes and playing video games.

Funeral Mass will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa with Fr. Scott Kramer officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 2 - 8 p.m. on Tuesday and one hour prior to Mass on Wednesday at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa. A scripture service will be held at 7:50 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to Sts. Peter and Paul Parish Life Center for the furnishings of the lobby/hearth area.
