Obituary

Brenda K. Kent CONTINENTAL - Brenda Kay Kent, age 75, went to her Heavenly home on March 28, 2025 at 5:53 a.m. surrounded by what meant most to her, family, after a short but valiant battle with cancer.  When Brenda set out to do something, nothing was going to stop her and she did things her way until the very end and we would not have wanted it any other way.  It was Brenda's world- we were just honored enough to live in it! While we are all saddened of her passing, we are comforted to know that that she is at Peace and out of pain. Brenda was born June 21, 1949 in Columbia City Indiana to Jay and Faith ( Hill ) Crawford. She graduated from Columbia City High School in 1967 where she participated in bowling and expressed her love for animals, horses in particular, with 4H.  After graduation she went to work for Lincoln Life Insurance Company in Fort Wayne, Indiana. It is while working at Lincoln Life, Brenda's life would forever be changed. In 1969,  A friend of Brenda's set her up on a blind date with a man who would be her forever partner in life, Carl.  It was love at first sight and they were inseparable after that first date of dinner and a movie. They were married on July 11, 1970 in Columbia City and Brenda moved to Continental, Ohio shortly after to start her new life with Carl. Brenda's children were her world!  She left the corporate working world when Shelly blessed their lives in 1977 and Todd was born in 1981, completing their little circle. While Brenda worked brief periods of time at Weller Farm and the The Continental News Review while the children were growing up, she devoted majority of her time to being involved in their activities. She was the band uniform manager, 4H helper and Prom Advisor for Shelly's junior year. These things brought her great joy and she did whatever she could to make each project she was involved in perfect because that's what she wanted for the children.  When she wasn't involved in something for her children, you could find her being involved in CCL and helping with various activities at the church. Once Brenda became a grandmother, you could find her continuing that support by being on the sidelines for any activity they were involved in, cheering them on. Family was important to her and she created lasting memories with her family by taking many family vacations and seasonal camping at Jellystone in Pierceton, Indiana for over 30 years. Everywhere Brenda went, she took pictures to capture those moments and we are so thankful she did so we can reflect on those happy times. Left to carry on Brenda's memories and values are her husband Carl, daughter Shelly (Jeff) Giesige,  son Todd ( Carrie ) Kent, Grandchildren Cole Kent  (Syd), Brayden Auch (Ariel), Hannah (Benjamin) Asebrook, Katelyn Becker and Makendal Auch  (Oliver).  She was blessed to be a Great Grandma to Lyla and Ivy and grandma to her grand puppies Gracie and Macy.  She  is also survived by her brother Gene, sister in law Shelley along with many nieces, nephews, extended family and lifelong friends. Brenda was greeted at Heaven's Gate by her parents, her son Keith and her sister Patricia. Brenda's Going Home service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday April 9, 2025 at HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME in Continental, Ohio with Pastor Monica Kleman officiating. Burial will follow in Prairie Chapel Cemetery , Oakwood. Viewing will be on Tuesday April 8th from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and again Wednesday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.  The family requests that instead of sending flowers and such, go spend time with your loved ones, tell them you love them and go make memories! We want to extend our sincere appreciation to Putnam County Home Health and Hospice for helping us keep Brenda at home while she was on her journey.  The family requests that any memorial contributions go to Putnam County Home Health and Hospice. A beloved soul who touched many lives and will be forever in our hearts. Condolences may be expressed at www.heitmeyerfuneralhome.com
