Carl B. Dickey

Born June 16, 1924 – Died February 21, 2020

Carl was born on June 16, 1924 in Doans, Indiana (Green County) to the late Cyril and Marie (Glaspie) Dickey.  On December 4, 1944 he was married to Bettie Morris, a wonderful marriage lasting 75 years.

He is survived by his wife Bettie, three sons: Kevin (MaryEllen) Dickey, Daniel (Susan) Dickey, and Brian J. (Karen) Dickey.  Seven grandchildren:  Samuel Dickey, Mackenzie Dickey, Collin (Ashley) Dickey, Sarah (Joseph) Appleyard, Alyssa (Matt) Sierawski, Erika Dickey and Jason Dickey.  Great grandson, Grayson Dickey (Collin & Ashley), a sister Geraldine Edwards, two sisters-in-law Susan Milner, Norma Grant.

Preceding him in death, one brother, Delbert Dickey, sister-in-law Margaret (Chambers) Vandeventer, brothers-in-law Lee Edwards, Dean Grant, Bill Milner, Donald Chambers.

A 1942 graduate of Forest High School, Forest, Indiana.  1943 drafted into the army during WWII.  Later joined 8th Air Force 492nd Bomber Group known as the Carpetbaggers, as a gunner on a B-24 serving in the European theatre.  After discharge in 1946, began work at General Motors Plant in Anderson, Indiana.  Soon after, left to attend school at Central Technical Institute School in Kansas City, Missouri.  November of 1949 started his 32-year career working at Sylvania Picture Tube Plant in Ottawa, Ohio, culminating as the department head in the electronics maintenance department.  Retiring in 1980, part of the Quarter Century Club.

Life member of Veteran Foreign Wars and American Legion.  Member of Trinity United Methodist Church, serving in various roles to include the Trustee Committee, reader at World Day of Prayer and a church Liturgist.

As an avid fisherman, enjoyed many trips to Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Canada with family and friends.  Traveled all 48 states on numerous road trips, but most enjoyable was spending time attending school and sporting events supporting his 3 boys and grandchildren.  A competitive euchre player and long-time bowler - rolled a perfect "300" game in 1964.

Carl & Bettie have resided in Ottawa, Ohio for 70 years, with over 30 years wintering in Sebring, Florida.

The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, February 28, 2020 at Trinity United Methodist Church, Ottawa with Pastor Monica Kleman officiating.  Burial will follow in Harman Cemetery, Gilboa, with military rites by the Ottawa VFW, American Legion and AMVETS.  Visitation will be Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa and again Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church.  Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society.
