Carl A. Schmenk
LEIPSIC - Carl A. Schmenk, 85, of Leipsic died at 10:55 a.m. Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at Blanchard Valley Hospital, Findlay. He was born April 19, 1929 in Leipsic to the late Louis and Amelia (Goedde) Schmenk.
He is survived by a brother: Bernard (Ann) Schmenk of Waterville; a brother-in-law: Tom Smith of Deshler; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Carl was also preceded in death by 2 brothers: Leonard (Kathleen and Velma) Schmenk and Arthur (Donna) Schmenk; and 2 sisters: Clara Smith and Alvera (Hubert) Beckman.
Carl was retired from the maintenance department of ODOT and had been a signal maintenance man for the railroad. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict where he received a Purple Heart. He was a member of the Leipsic VFW and St. Mary's Catholic Church in Leipsic.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 20, 2014 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Leipsic with the Very Reverend George Wenzinger officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites by the Leipsic VFW and American Legion. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at LOVE-HEITYMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Leipsic. Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Building on Generations of Service.
