Carol Sue Okuley

New Bavaria - Carol Sue (Fortman) Okuley. 70, of  New Bavaria and formerly of Ottawa,  died 6:17 a.m.  Friday, September 9, 2016 at Defiance Inpatient Hospice Center after a long battle with cancer.  She was born January 22, 1946 in Lima to the late Raymond and Edna (Kerner) Fortman.  On April 15, 1967, she married Michael L. Okuley who survives in New Bavaria.

Carol is also survived by four sons and a daughter: Jeff (Rhonda) Okuley of North Baltimore, Chris (Saundra) Okuley of Defiance, Mark (Kerri) Okuley of Defiance, Bryan Okuley of Leipsic and Stacy Okuley of Amherst; nine grandchildren: Morgan, Kylee, Karli, Stephanie, Michael, Trevor, Kacee, Ava, Alayna; three brothers: James (Alene) Fortman of Piqua, Thomas (Theresa)  Fortman of Lakeview and Daniel (Lynn) Fortman of Shelby; five sisters: Joyce (Eugene) Renzi of Sackets Harbor, NY, Phyllis Poulson of Stevensville, MI, Joan (Leonard) Ebbeskotte of Glandorf, Mariellen (Charles) Dorman of Vienna, VA, and Debra (Carey) Bryant of Marblehead; and a step-sister: Kay Kitchen of Columbus.  She was preceded in death by her brother-in-law: Daniel Poulson; sister-in-law: Karen Fortman and a step-sister: Connie Gerdeman.

After graduating from Sts. Peter and Paul High School, Ottawa, she worked for Sylvania.  She also worked at Campbell Soup Co., Napoleon.  She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, New Bavaria,  its Rosary Altar Society, residing as President,  Catholic Ladies of Columbia and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 2234 Auxiliary of Ottawa.  Carol was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother.  She loved to fish and spend time with her family playing cards and watching her grandchildren.  She also loved spending time with her neighbor friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, New Bavaria, with Fr. Tony Fortman, Carol's nephew, officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. on Monday at      LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa.

In lieu of flowers, family would like memorials go to Defiance Inpatient Hospice Center.
