Carol Hoersten

OTTOVILLE - Carol Hoersten passed away on August 1st 2026 surrounded by the love of her family. Carol was born in Delphos, Ohio, on August 22, 1960, to Dennis and Esther Siefker. She was a graduate of Delphos St. John’s High School, Class of 1978. On June 12, 1982, she married the love of her life, Steven Hoersten of Ottoville, with whom she built a life centered around family, faith, and community.

Carol is survived by her beloved husband, Steven Hoersten; her two children, Stephanie (Chris) Maye and Brent (Danielle) Hoersten; and her seven cherished grandchildren, Evan and Natalie Maye, and Bernadine, Augie, Opie, Reggie, and Archie Hoersten, all of Ottoville. She is also survived by her mother, Esther Siefker, siblings: Kathy (Ray) Schmersal, David Siefker, Linda (Jason) Germann, and her many nieces and nephews. Carol was also loved by her dear friend Joan Wise.

She was preceded in death by her father, Dennis Siefker, and her sister-in-law, Lisa Siefker.

For 18 years, Carol fought a courageous battle against cancer. In true Carol fashion, she beat the odds, changed the stats, and redefined what it meant to celebrate life. Her grit, positivity, and fierce determination inspired everyone around her, proving time and time again that her strength and love were far greater than any diagnosis.

Carol was a welcoming face at The Fort Jennings State Bank in Ottoville, where she worked as a teller. She truly cherished her work, especially the daily interactions and bright conversations she shared with her customers.

A woman of deep faith and service, Carol was an active member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Ottoville, serving faithfully as a Eucharistic Minister. She helped run the church festival for 3 years. Her dedication to her community is shown through her involvement in the Ottoville Mothers Club and her pivotal role in helping launch Ottoville’s annual Winterfest. Carol was for many years, the Treasurer for the Ottoville Boy Scouts.

Above all else, Carol’s greatest joy was her family. Over the years Carol has enjoyed camping and the many vacations with her family. She loved watching her children grow and could often be found proudly cheering them on at their sporting events over the years. In time, that devotion extended to her grandchildren, whom she adored beyond measure, treasuring every moment spent watching them grow up.

Carol’s funeral mass will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 5, 2026 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville with the Very Reverend Father George Mahas and Deacon Larry Schimmoeller officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s cemetery, Ottoville. Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday and from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at the LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Jackson Township, where a scripture service will be Tuesday at 1:45 p.m.
