KALIDA - Carolyn K. Unverferth, 79 of Kalida died at 10:06 p.m. Monday, December 17, 2018 at Mercy Health Putnam Medical Center, Glandorf. She was born May 13, 1939 in Defiance to Amos Burnell and Veronica Mae (Hasselschert) Hicks. Her father is deceased, her mom survives in Kalida. On October 3, 1959 she married Kenneth Unverferth and he survives in Kalida.
Also surviving are two children, Jeff (Kay) Unverferth of Kalida and Gina (Josh) Fossitt of Chicago, IL; four grandchildren, Abbie (Drew) Weizer, Cory (Megan) Unverferth, Adam (Jessica) Unverferth, and Phoenix Fossitt; four great-grandchildren, Alex and Ella Weizer and Braxton and Tinley Unverferth; a brother, Eugene (Jane) Hicks of Ely, MN; and a sister, Cathy (Paul) Warnecke of Kalida. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Donald Hicks.
Carolyn was a florist, working at multiple establishments. She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Kalida. Carolyn played the accordion in the band, Montana Ramblers. She was a seamstress for high school musicals. She enjoyed going to musicals, plays, and concerts, and loved boating and traveling. Carolyn was an inspiration to all after her 34 year battle with cancer. She never let her positive attitude waiver.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 21, 2018 at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Kalida with Fr. Mark Hoying officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Jackson Township. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
