Charles L. Birkemeier
GLANDORF – Charles L. Birkemeier, 71, of Glandorf died at 2:34 a.m. Monday, January 23, 2012 at the Ohio State University Medical Center, Columbus. He was born November 19, 1940 in Lima to the late Edwin and Mary (Warnecke) Birkemeier. His stepmother, Katherine (Winget) Birkemeier is also deceased. On October 16, 1965 he married Theresa Hoorman who survives in Glandorf.
Also surviving are 3 children: Dennis (Fay) Birkemeier of Waterville, David (Amy) Birkemeier of Glandorf and DeeDee (Douglas) Haselman of Glandorf; 9 grandchildren: Colton Haselman, Kylee Birkemeier, Nicholas Birkemeier, Madyson Haselman, Brennen Birkemeier, Alexa Haselman, Anna Birkemeier, Connor Haselman, Lillian Haselman; 2 brothers: James (Carol) Birkemeier and Cletus (Mary) Birkemeier both of Glandorf; and a sister: Alice Diemer of Glandorf. He was also preceded in death by a brother-in-law: Roger Diemer.
Charles and his brother Jim owned Birkemeier Builders in Glandorf.  He retired in 2005. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Glandorf and it's Men's Society. He was a US Navy Veteran who served on the USS Essex. He was a member of the Ottawa Knights of Columbus and Glandorf Rod and Gun. Charles was dedicated to his family and community. He helped at K of C Bingo on Monday nights and with projects in the Glandorf Community Park and in his parish. As a member of Glandorf Lions Club he was in charge of french fries at the Glandorf Festival. Charles was a role model for all men. As a young man he served his country in the Navy, as a husband, he set an example of how to be a loving man and father, and as a grandfather, he created an image bigger than life itself.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, January 26, 2012 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Glandorf with Fr. Ken Schroeder officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday and 2 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa where there will be a Knights of Columbus and Parish rosary at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Memorials may be made to Glandorf Community Park or to the maintenance fund for St. John's Church.
