Charles E. Claybaugh
LEIPSIC – Charles E. Claybaugh, 90, of Leipsic, died 7:16 p.m., Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at The Meadows of Leipsic. He was born December 14, 1933, in McComb to the late Ralph Chester and Helen Louise (Dillinger) Claybaugh. On November 12, 1955, he married Ilene M. Gable. She died September 19, 2020.
Survivors include two children: Tonja (William) McDonald of Lima and Eric Claybaugh of Trenton, MI; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Janet (Harlen) DeHart of McComb.
He was also preceded in death by three siblings: Sandra K. Claybaugh, Mary Agner and Ralph Claybaugh.
Charlie retired in 1995 as Signal and Communications Maintenance with DT & I / GTW / CN Railroad in Lima. He was a member of First Lutheran Church, Leipsic performing many duties over the years. He enjoyed playing golf, bicycling around town, traveling, cruises and was an avid Johnny Cash fan. He especially enjoyed winters with Ilene in Bradenton, FL for close to 20 years. Charlie was also a Leipsic Viking and OSU Buckeye fan.
Funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 9, 2024 at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Leipsic with Rev. Julie Parsell officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Sugar Ridge Cemetery, Leipsic. Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service on Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorial donations may be made to Putnam County Hospice.
