Charles J. Uphaus
GLANDORF - Charles J. Uphaus, 87, of Glandorf, died at 6:34 p.m. Monday, July 8, 2013 at his residence. He was born April 25, 1926 in Glandorf to the late Charles A. and Frances (Unverferth) Uphaus.  His mother and twin brother died in childbirth, his father died when he was 12 years old. His Uncle Henry and Aunt Annie Buddelmeyer helped to raise him and his siblings in the home that he has lived in since he was one day old.  On June 16, 1951 he married Monica R. Kavanagh who survives in Glandorf.
Also surviving are 2 children, Dr. Mary Ann (Frank) Myers of Glandorf and William (Linda) Uphaus of The Villages, FL; 5 grandchildren: Neil Myers, Dr. Alisa (Cpt. Chad) Marzec, Amber (Zach) Fether, Tiffany (Ryan) Fruth, PharmD, and Tyler (Chelsea Johnston) Uphaus; 2 great-grandchildren Jackson Marzec, Katelyn Marzec and one great grandchild on the way.
He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Uphaus, a sister and brother-in-law, Mildred (Jack) Pohlabel; a brother and sister-in-law, Edwin (Erma) Uphaus and a twin brother, John Uphaus.
Charles retired after 42 years with Louisiana Pacific as a woodworker.  He was a WWII Navy Veteran and a member of the Ottawa American Legion Post #63.  He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and its Men's Society, CRHP men's Team #1 and an altar boy for 75 years.  He was also a member of the Ottawa Knights of Columbus, United Brotherhood of Carpenters & Journeymen of America, a Scout Master and on the scouting committee for Glandorf, Glandorf Village Council for 19 years and Glandorf Volunteer Fire Department for 25 years. He received the Glandorf Distinguished Citizen Award in 1986.
A Mass of Christian burial will begin at 9:30 a.m., Thursday, July 11, 2013 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Glandorf with Fr. Tony Fortman officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites by the Ottawa American Legion.  Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa and one hour prior to the service Thursday at the church.  There will be a service by the Glandorf Fire Department at 7:00 p.m. and a K of C rosary at 7:30 p.m. both Wednesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Putnam County Home Heath & Hospice.
