CHARLEY P. SALDANA
OTTAWA - Charley P. Saldana, 91, of Ottawa died 3:05 p.m., Friday, August 8, 2014 at The Meadows at Putnam Acres, Ottawa. He was born September 5, 1922 in Batesville, TX to the late Salvador and Santos (Prado) Saldana. On March 30, 1950, he married Santos Aguilera. She died November 5, 2003.
Surviving are children, Daniel Torres of McComb, and Frances Saldana, Janie Saldana and Melinda (Alex) Palomo all of Ottawa; 16 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and a sister, Maria Escabedo of TX.
He was preceded in death by a son, Carlos Saldana; a grandson; 4 brothers and 2 sisters.
Charley retired from working at the alfalfa mill and Buckeye Sugar in Ottawa. He was a WWII Army Veteran 3rd and 6th Armored Division, 231st Armored Field Artillery Battalion, a member of Victory on the Cross Pentecostal Church in Findlay and the Ottawa VFW. He loved riding his lawnmower around town and spending time with his family.
Funeral service will begin at 2 p.m., Monday, August 11, 2014 at Fountain of Life Church, Leipsic with Pastor George Jarrell officiating. Burial will follow in Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery, Ottawa with military rites by the Ottawa VFW, American Legion and AMVETS. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Sunday at HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa where a VFW service will begin at 7 p.m. Additional visitation will be one hour prior to service Monday at the Church in Leipsic.
