Chester W. Thomas

OAKWOOD – Chester W. Thomas, 87 of Oakwood, went to be with the Lord at 2:05 p.m., Tuesday, April 26, 2022, at Vancrest of Payne. He was born August 2, 1934, in Paulding County, to the late Wesley and Rebecca (Matson) Thomas and a stepmother, the late Alma "Nell" (Johnson) Thomas. On June 12, 1954, he married Lois Grunden, who preceded him in death on July 22, 2020.

Chester is survived by three children: Debbie (Steve) Grove of Oakwood, David (Karen) Thomas of Payne, and Rebecca "Becky" (Jed) Hoisington of Wren; nine grandchildren: Jodi Lucas of North Carolina, Hillary Grove of Oakwood, Niccole Muntzinger of Van Wert, Benjamin Thomas of Payne, Samuel Thomas of Cecil, Brandon Hermiller of Antwerp, Zachary Hermiller of Grover Hill, Chloe Hoisington and Techoa Hoisington, both of Wren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two beloved cats.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Evan Thomas; and a great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Lucas.

Chester was employed for many years at Roberts Machine as a tool and die maker in Oakwood. He was also employed at the Oakwood Waterworks Department, Dangler Machine and retired from Chrysler ICM of Van Wert.  Chester was known for his love of family and friends, his great sense of humor, but most of all, for telling everyone of the joy of having the Lord as his personal Lord and Savior.

A funeral service will begin at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, April 30, 2022 at HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Oakwood with Rev. Terry Porter officiating.  Visitation will be held 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, prior to the service at the funeral home.  Burial will be at a later date in Middle Creek Cemetery, Grover Hill.
