Constance E. Plassman
LEIPSIC - Constance E. Plassman, 90, of Leipsic died at 8:25 a.m. Friday, April 10, 2015 at The Meadows of Leipsic. She was born May 1, 1924 in Leipsic to the late John and Opal (Powell) Morris. On January 1, 1947 she married William H. Plassman who died December 18, 2007.
She is survived by 3 children: David (Esther) Plassman of Napoleon, Miriam (Brent) Gibson and Thomas (Debra) Plassman both of Leipsic; 4 grandchildren: Mitchell Gibson, Miles Gibson, Corey Plassman, and Clarissa Plasman; 2 step-grandchildren: Terry (Tracey) Gerken and Eric Gerken; 1 step great-grandchild: Trevor Gerken; and 3 sisters: Joanne (Lowell) Schey of Leipsic, Marilyn (Orie) McDougle of Ft. Wayne, IN, and Shirley Linhart of Findlay. She was preceded in death by a brother-in-law: John Linhart.
Connie was employed for 30 years in education; 15 years as a primary teacher and 15 years as the elementary Principal at Leipsic Local School. Her early teaching years began at Bryant School in Fostoria, then she began teaching at West Leipsic School before moving to the new school in 1953.
She graduated from Leipsic High School in 1942. While in school, Connie participated in band, chorus, school plays, and co-wrote the lyrics to the Leipsic High School Alma Mater. Connie received her Bachelor of Education from Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green and her Master in Education from St. Francis College in Ft. Wayne, IN. She was inducted into the Inaugural Class of the Leipsic Education Foundation in 2015 and was a mentor for the Host Program.
She was a member of First Lutheran Church, Leipsic where she was a Sunday School Teacher, a member of the church choir, and a member of the Women of Evangelical Lutheran Church of America. Connie was also a member of the Ohio Retired Teachers Association, Putnam County Retired Teacher Association, First Families of Guernsey County, OH, Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Ohio Genealogical Society. Her hobbies included reading, traveling, researching genealogy, and creating stained glass pieces with her husband, Bill.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 14, 2015 at First Lutheran Church, Leipsic with Rev. George Zornow officiating. Burial will follow in Sugar Ridge Cemetery, Leipsic. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. on Monday at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Leipsic and one hour prior to the service at church on Tuesday. Memorials may be made to the First Lutheran Church, Leipsic.
