Craig A. McElwain
OTTAWA - Craig A. McElwain, 33, died 11:50 p.m. Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at his residence.
He was born October 24, 1979 in Lima to James and Brenda (Halker) McElwain, who survive in Kalida. On May 7, 2011, he married Jessica Brinkman and she survives in Ottawa. Also surviving are three sisters: Wendy (Chris) Hoersten of Fort Jennings, Kelly Hosler of Kalida, and Stacey Champagne of Pemberton; 10 nieces and nephews: Katelynn Hoersten, Abby, Auston, and Ryan Hosler, Ethan, Noah, and Megan Schnipke, and Steven, Taylor, and Andrew Champagne; and father and mother-in-law: Gary and Kathy Brinkman of Findlay.
Craig was a Deputy Sheriff for Putnam County for over 10 years and a volunteer fireman with the Ottawa Fire Department for 7 years. He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, Kalida, Ottawa Sons of the American Legion, and Kalida Fish and Game. He was a 1998 graduate of Kalida High School and graduate of Vantage Police Academy. He enjoyed fishing, NASCAR, an avid gamer, and was a Cincinnati Reds fan.
A Mass of Christian Burial will begin 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 19, 2013 at St. Michael Catholic Church, Kalida with Fr. Mark Hoying officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with the Putnam County Honor Guard. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa where a service will be held by Ottawa Fire Department at 7:30 pm.
