Obituary

Daniel Eugene “Dan/Ace” Fuerst

AMHERST - Daniel Eugene “Dan/Ace” Fuerst, 74, of Amherst, Ohio, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2026. He was born on November 4, 1951, in Lima, Ohio, to Eugene and Dorothy (Honigford) Fuerst.

Dan was a graduate of Ottoville High School and retired from Roundy’s after 30 years of service. A proud Army veteran, he served in Korea during the Vietnam War. During retirement, Dan enjoyed working part-time at Home Depot and being an active member of American Legion Post 118 in Amherst, Ohio. But his favorite pastime may have been cheering on his beloved Cleveland teams – the Browns, Guardians, and Cavaliers – and, of course, The Ohio State Buckeyes.

Dan had a gift for making people laugh. Always ready to celebrate life, he typically had an interesting factoid to share or a funny joke at the ready. His quick wit and knack for having just the right thing to say earned him the nickname “Ace.”

He leaves behind his beloved wife of nearly 15 years, Judy (Gasser) Fuerst. He also leaves behind his children: Aaron (Jenny) Fuerst of Worthington, Kristy Fuerst of Lima, and Melissa Jones of Elida; his stepson, Daniel Klausing of Lakewood; and his six grandchildren: Grant, Reed and Brock Fuerst of Worthington, and Reece, Rylee and Kinslee Jones of Elida/Delphos, Ohio.

Dan also is survived by his siblings: Patricia (Denny) Koester of Florida, Mike (Christy) Fuerst of Celina, and Ginny (Bob) Livermore of Sidney. He also leaves behind the mother of his three grown kids, Julie Fuerst of Delphos, Ohio.

Family and friends are invited to calling hours from 3 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, September 3, 2026, and 9 to 10 a.m. on Friday, September 4, 2026, at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Jackson Township (16085 St. Rt. 634, Ft. Jennings, Ohio). Funeral Mass will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 4, 2026, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Ottoville, Ohio. Following Mass, Dan will be laid to rest at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Ottoville.

Dan had a special love for animals, especially dogs. In his memory, the family welcomes donations to the Cleveland Animal Protective League at ClevelandAPL.org.

Dan will be remembered for his quick wit, generous spirit, love of family, and ability to find something to laugh about. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
