Daniel "Orson" Mangas
LEIPSIC – Daniel "Orson" Mangas, 51, of Leipsic passed away at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday, November 6, 2012 at his residence following a courageous battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease).
Dan was born March 21, 1961 in Lima to Richard and Janet (Logan) Mangas.  His father preceded him in death and his mother survives in Leipsic.  On June 25, 1988 he married Linda Haselman who survives in Leipsic along with their two children, Nate and Nicole.  Also surviving is a brother: Doug (Denise) Mangas of Leipsic; two sisters: Jill (Brad) Schroeder of Leipsic and Jenny Mangas of Cincinnati; five sisters-in-law: Deb (Steve) Barney of Ottawa, Pat (Bob) Newell of Leipsic, Rose Resnik of Van Buren, Brenda (Dave) Johnson of Perrysburg, and Melanie (Greg) Leingang of Tipp City; two brothers-in-law: Mark (Diane) Haselman and Marty (Krisann) Haselman both of Leipsic; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents: Francis and Velma Logan; paternal grandparents: Evelyn and Theodore Graham; and father and mother-in-law: Ralph and Bernadine Haselman.
Dan graduated from Leipsic High School where he was a member of the state baseball championship team.  He proudly served in the U.S. Army for four years.  Prior to his ALS diagnosis, he formerly worked at Louisiana-Pacific for 16 years and then he operated an embroidery and promotional business in Leipsic.  He was a former Jr. High Basketball coach for Ottawa SPPS and Leipsic St. Mary's Schools and an assistant coach for several years for Leipsic Jr. High and High School Football.  He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Leipsic, Leipsic Eagles, Leipsic AMVETS, Leipsic American Legion, Leipsic Fishing and Hunters Club, and Findlay Moose.
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 10, 2012 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Leipsic with Fr. George Wenzinger officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites by Leipsic American Legion.   Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Leipsic.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Development Fund for the Leipsic Baseball Fields.
