Dave E. Schroeder
OTTAWA - Dave E. Schroeder, 78 of Ottawa, passed away peacefully at 10:26 a.m., Tuesday, October 18, 2022 at the Meadows of Ottawa surrounded by his family. He was born March 20, 1944 in Lima to the late Ernest and Lucille (Laubenthal) Schroeder. On April 20, 1963, he married Marlene Konst, who died April 5, 2016.
Survivors include three children: Cynthy (Kevin) Wolke, Lisa (Keith) Alt, and Brad (Kathy) Schroeder all of Ottawa; seven grandchildren: Jason (Sydney) Wolke, Erica Wolke, Courtney (Zachary) Holtzapple, Cody (Rachael) Alt, Carly (Jake Kuhlman) Alt, Zack Schroeder, and Haley Schroeder all of Ottawa; three great-grandchildren: Davis and Rhett Wolke, and Ayla Holtzapple. Other survivors include three siblings: Les (Ginny) Schroeder of Miller City, Nancy Walther of Leipsic, and Randy (Miriam) Schroeder of New Cleveland.
He was also preceded in death by an infant son, Jeff Schroeder; and two brothers: Howard Schroeder and William "Bill" Schroeder.
Dave was a retired truck driver, owning and operating his own rig, working for multiple companies and Roadway Trucking company, where he drove over two million miles accident free and to all fifty states. Dave and his wife Marlene also were entrepreneurs owning and operating Loving Care Day Care in Ottawa from 1989 until 2001. Dave served in the Ottawa Fire Department for 52 years. He was a member of Leipsic Fishing and Hunting Club (where he served as President), Ottawa Eagles, Moose Lodge, National Rifle Association, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, and the Vintage Chevrolet Car Club of America. Dave was an avid Big Game hunter, harvesting elk, moose, bear, mountain lion, caribou, pronghorn, mule, deer, and many more animals. He also enjoyed Lake Erie Walleye fishing with his Uncle Jim Laubenthal and Uncle Shorty Niese. Dave also enjoyed spending time with his family, grandchildren, and great- grandchildren. He also wintered in Florida, mostly the Fort Myers area, where he established many loyal friendships. He loved cars, NASCAR, hot rods, vintage gas pumps, traveling and tractors.
Funeral Mass will begin 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 22, 2022 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa with Fr. Scott Kramer officiating. Burial will follow at Holy Family Cemetery, New Cleveland. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, where a scripture service will begin at 7:50 p.m. at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa.
