Dr. David F. Poeppelman
OTTAWA - Dr. David F. Poeppelman, 70 of Ottawa died 3:54 a.m., Saturday, December 19, 2020, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born December 30, 1949, and raised in Osgood by the late Urban and Alice (Thieman) Poeppelman. On June 8, 1974, he married Lucy E. Homan and she survives in Ottawa.
Other survivors include two children: Brian (Teresa) Poeppelman of New Albany and Amy (Kevin) Marcotte of Mason; five grandchildren: Jason, Blake and Olivia Poeppelman and Kayla and Andrew Marcotte; two brothers: Melvin (Lynne Gilbert) Poeppelman of Bellevue and Gary (Lisa) Poeppelman of Yorkshire; a sister, Marilyn Poeppelman of Minster; and several out-laws: Maryann Homan, Diane (Carl) DeMange, Judy Link, Leon (Kathy) Homan, Dave Homan, Helen (Dennis) Schattel, Terese Knapik, Marlene (Rick) Brunswick, Dr. Joe (Nancy) Homan, Lisa (Mark) Seitz, Ann (Craig) Nesbit and Tim Homan.
He was also preceded in death by several out-laws: Ron Homan, Virgil Homan, Rose Ann Homan, Martin Homan, Tom Link, Michael Knapik and Brenda Homan.
Dave retired in 2015 after 41 years from his own dental practice in Ottawa. He received the achievement of Fellow by the Academy of Dentistry and had done philanthropic dental work in Haiti. In high school, Dave (and his teammates) scored the first ever touchdown on the Marion Local football field. Dave was a 42-year member of the Ottawa Kiwanis Club and past president. He loved playing golf, playing softball and skiing into his 70's. In addition, he collected antique radios, enjoyed reading, completed many crossword and Sudoku puzzles. Dave traveled the world with his wonderful wife Lucy and enjoyed dancing to Rocky and the Rollers in The Villages, FL. He loved being with his grandchildren, playing 500 and Pepper with his children, and enjoyed games with friends and family. He achieved the ranking of Bridge Life Master. He was a huge supporter of the OSU Buckeyes, O-G Titans and Marion Local Flyers.
Friends and family may visit LOVE FUNERAL HOME on Wednesday, December 23, 2020, from 12:00-5:00 p.m. to share memories of Dave. A Celebration of Life will be at a later date. Social distancing guidelines and masks are required at the funeral home.
Memorial donations may be given to Putnam County Hospice, Ottawa Kiwanis, or Putnam County Red Cross.
