Dennis A. Maag

KALIDA – Dennis A. Maag, age 88 of Kalida passed away peacefully and surrounded by his family on July 1, 2023, at The Meadows of Kalida.  Denny was born on November 6, 1934, in Columbus Grove to the late Ben and Philomena (Feldman) Maag.  On July 12, 1958, he married the love of his life, Rita Holtkamp who survives in Kalida.

Denny is also survived by their four children: Debra (Jeff) Unverferth of Sylvania, Doug (Justine) Maag of Dublin, Dean (Lisa) Maag of Cloverdale and Danielle (Mike) Beveridge of Sylvania; eleven grandchildren: Sonny (Chelsey) Unverferth, Lauren Unverferth, Rachael Unverferth, Sydney Unverferth, Jameson (Heather) Maag, Benjamin Maag, Sean Maag, Henry Maag, Addie Beveridge, Lainey Beveridge, and Austin Beveridge; three great-grandchildren: Hadlee, Graham and Lucas Maag; and a brother, Leroy Maag.

He is preceded in death by seven brothers: Harold Maag, Omar (Viola) Maag, Danny (Jennie) Maag, James Maag, Carl (Rita) Maag, Urban (Rosie) Maag and Gene (Shirley) Maag; and four sisters: Evelyn (Harold) Wannemacher, Catherine (Harold) Deters, Mildred (Wilbur) Roof and Marcia (James) Kuhlman; and a sister-in-law, Karen Maag.

Denny started with The Ford Motor Company, Lima in 1957 and retired as a Quality Control Engineer after 40 years with the company.  He then worked with Heartlight Pharmacy Services as a delivery person.  He was a devout Catholic and active member of St. Michael Catholic Church, Kalida, where he truly enjoyed singing in the choir and being a member of the Kalida Knights of Columbus.  Denny was a talented athlete and especially enjoyed cheering on his favorite team, The Boston Red Sox.  Everyone who knew Denny appreciated his card playing abilities and competitiveness.  He loved music and dancing, especially with his favorite partner, Rita; and what he loved most of all, was to be his family's biggest and strongest cheerleader.

Visitation will be held at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Kalida, Ohio on Wednesday, July 5, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., immediately followed by a Mass celebrating Denny's life with Fr. Rick Friebel officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  Mass will be live streamed on channel 70 and the St. Michael Catholic Church Facebook page.  The family would like to especially thank Lisa Wolfe for her wonderful care of Dennis.  You are an angel.
