Donald Gibson
OTTAWA – Donald Gibson, 91 of Ottawa died at 6:00 a.m. Saturday, September 8, 2012 at Putnam Acres Care Center, Ottawa. He was born November 30, 1920 in Detroit, MI to the late George and Anna Maude (Sutton) Gibson. On October 15, 1947, he married Rita Ricker and she survives in Ottawa. Also surviving are 3 sons: Thomas Gibson of Lima, Donald "Butch" Gibson, Jr. of Swanton and John Gibson of Leipsic; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death also by 3 brothers: Elmer, Robert and David Gibson and 2 sisters: Mildred Benton and Virginia Bell.
Don retired in 1981 after 33 years with Philips Display Components formerly of Ottawa. He was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa and a WWII Navy veteran serving on the USS McDougal. He was a life member of the Ottawa VFW and American Legion. Golf was his passion and he was a lifelong member of Pike Run Golf Club.
A Mass of Christian burial will be said at 10:00 am Tuesday, September 11, 2012 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church with Fr. Alfons Minja officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and one hour prior to service Tuesday at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa where there will be a VFW service at 7:30 p.m. Monday.
