Obituary

Donald W. “Don” Nienberg

GLANDORF – Donald W. “Don” Nienberg, 86, of Glandorf, passed away on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at his residence. He was born May 18, 1940, in Lima to the late Paul and Philomena (Maag) Nienberg. On May 20, 1972, he married Elizabeth “Betty” Aelker, who survives in Glandorf.

Other survivors include two children: Valerie Zell of Floyd Knobs, IN and Roger Nienberg of Glandorf; four grandchildren: Jack Zell, Katie Zell, Ace Nienberg and Sydney Nienberg; and a sister-in-law, Sister Rebecca Aelker OSF of Tiffin.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Samantha Nienberg and a brother, Roger Nienberg.

Don retired from Whirlpool in Findlay after 40 years. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Glandorf. Don enjoyed gardening, yard work, woodworking, especially making benches and swings, and riding roller coasters at Cedar Point. When his daughter, Valerie, was young, he gave her the nickname Punky after the TV Show, Punky Brewster, and called her that for the next 40 years. When their son, Roger, was young, one of Don’s favorite pastimes was working with him on building and flying remote control planes. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and taking family vacations. Don will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Funeral Mass will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Glandorf with Fr. Matt Keller officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. on Friday and 8:30 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. on Saturday at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa.
