Donald F. Palte

MILLER CITY - Donald F. Palte, 83, of Miller City died Wednesday, January 19, 2022 at his residence. He was born October 19, 1938 in Putnam County to the late Clarence and Marcella (Drummelsmith) Palte.  On September 27, 1958, he married Deloris M. Warnimont.  She preceded him in death on December 5, 2021.

Survivors include five children: Stephen Palte of Glandorf, Douglas (Deb Yant) Palte of Miller City, Gregory (Chris) Palte of California, Michael (Arin Zahler) Palte of Miller City and Michele "Sis" (Jeff) Newman of Dublin; ten grandchildren: Amy (Doug Hoffman) Palte, Jacob Palte, Joseph (Sahra) Palte, Stacey (Eliot) Johnson, Sean (Lorisa) Stevens, Justin Palte, Joshua Palte, Jessica Palte, Stephen Newman and Peterson Newman; eight great-grandchildren and one on the way; two brothers: Kenneth (Mary Jane) Palte of New Cleveland, Larry (Suzanne) Palte of  Michigan; and a brother-in-law, Chuck (Barbara) Pinney of Lima.

He was also preceded in death by a son, Daniel "Boone" Palte and a sister, Sharon Pinney.

Donald graduated from Miller City High School and served eight years in the US National Guard. He retired from Phillips Components, formerly of Ottawa and was a Miller City volunteer fireman for 37 and a half years. He was a lifelong farmer and a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Miller City, Miller City Sportsmen's Club, Miller City Athletic Boosters, Putnam County Farm Bureau, Ohio Farmers Union, Palmer Township Zoning Board, Leipsic American Legion, life member of the Leipsic Fishing and Hunting Association, life member of the Ottawa Knights of Columbus, Ottawa Eagles and Cloverdale Game Club.  He was the former president of the AWRA and an avid swim dog race fan. He started the Miller City Cub Scouts.  Don, alongside Charlie Warnimont and the backing of the Miller City Sportsmen's Club, organized and managed the Miller City Little League and Pony League Baseball program and girl's softball program. It was his dream come true when the first teams went to Columbus for their first state championship. It took many coaches and umpires, but is still a success today.

Funeral mass will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 24, 2022 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Miller City with Father Steve Schroeder officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery with military rites by Leipsic American Legion. Visitation will be 2 - 6 p.m. Sunday, January 23, 2022 and one hour prior to the mass Monday at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa. A Knights of Columbus rosary will begin at 5:30 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.
