Donald Schoonover
Ottawa -- Donald Schoonover, 90, of Ottawa, died at 7:13 a.m. Saturday, January 10, 2015 at his residence. He was born June 28, 1924, in Utica, MI, to the late Carl and Hilda (Houghten) Schoonover. On August 19, 1950 he married Sarah Morehart who survives in Ottawa.
Donald is survived by 3 children: Charles (Sue) Schoonover of Longmont, CO and John (Jayne) Schoonover of Findlay and Sue (John) Foster of Marietta, GA; 3 brothers: Bill Schoonover of FL, Wilbert Schoonover and Alger Schoonover both of MI; and 3 grandsons: Kevin Schoonover, Nick Foster and Ryan Foster.
He was preceded in death by his siblings: Beatrice Winne, Alfred Schoonover, Carl Schoonover, Jr., Ferry Schoonover and Gilbert Schoonover.
Donald retired from Sylvania/Phillips where he worked from 1950-1987 and was a member of the Quarter Century Club. He was a member of the Ottawa Presbyterian Church, a graduate of The University of Michigan and was an avid Wolverine's Football and Basketball fan. Don was a WWII veteran serving in the Philippines. He built his own sailboat and was a longtime member of the Lima Power Squadron. He also enjoyed golf.
Burial will be at a later date at Harman Cemetery, Gilboa. Memorial donations may be made to Ottawa Presbyterian Church or to the charity of the donor's choice. Arrangements are under the direction of Love Funeral Home, Ottawa.
