Donald D. Strauer
GLANDORF – Donald D. Strauer, 91, of Glandorf, passed away at 2:44 a.m. on Friday, June 6, 2025, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born February 10, 1934, in Lima to the late Henry and Verena (Sommer) Strauer. On August 13, 1955, he married Marie Weber, who survives in Glandorf.
Also surviving are three children: Terry Lee (Sue) Strauer of Ottawa, Dennis J. Strauer of Glandorf and Dale A. (Ranae) Strauer of Continental; six grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by four siblings: Midge (Gerald) Meyer, Katheryn (Charles) Meyer, Robert (JoAnn) Strauer and Rita (James) Mershman.
Donald was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean Conflict from 1955 to 1957. He retired from Ford Motor Company, Lima after 35 years. Donald also served as a policeman and Volunteer Glandorf Fireman. He was on the Glandorf Town Council for a time as well. Donald loved baseball and was a little league coach. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Glandorf, where he was a Eucharistic Minister. He was also a lifetime member of the Ottawa Eagles, American Legion and VFW and founding member of the Glandorf Rod and Gun.
Donald enjoyed fishing, hunting, trapping, camping, and was an avid fan of the Michigan Wolverines, Detroit Tigers, Detroit Lions, and OG Titans. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Putnam County Homecare and Hospice, The Meadows of Ottawa and Mercy Health St. Rita's staff for the compassionate care they provided for Donald.
Funeral Mass will begin 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Glandorf with Fr. Matt Keller officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites by the Ottawa American Legion, VFW, AMVETS and DAV. Visitation will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. on Thursday prior to the Mass at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa.
