Donna A. Shafer

CONTINENTAL – Donna A. Shafer, 91, of Continental died 10:00 p.m. Sunday, December 17, 2017 at Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice, Defiance.  She was born November 22, 1926 in Bellevue, to the late Willard and Florence (Geren) Cass, Sr.  On October 23, 1948 she married Raymond D. Shafer, who died July 26, 2002.

Donna is survived by one daughter: Nola Brown of Defiance; 3 grandsons:  Keith (Amanda) Brown, Paul L. Brown and Tony (Joan) Fairchild, all of Defiance; 7 great-grandchildren:  Stephanie, Taylor, Emily and Sierra Brown, Jayden Stone, A.J. and Tiffany Fairchild; 2 brothers: Richard (Shirley) Cass of Leipsic and Robert and (Gloria) Cass of Ayersville; a sister:  Norma Jean Thomas of Continental.

She is preceded in death by 3 brothers:  Willard, Jr., Edward and Carl Cass and 2 sisters:  Florence "Elaine" Shellenbarger and Erma Cunningham.

Donna was a lifelong member of Christ Lutheran Church of Continental and taught Sunday school for many years.  She was a homemaker.  Donna was a mentor at Continental Elementary School for 14 years and received many awards for her service.  She loved every one of the children she mentored.

She was a volunteer throughout the Continental community.  Where ever she was needed she was there to help.  She loved her family, friends and her dog, toby.  Donna enjoyed music, puzzles, games and outside work.  She will be missed by everyone whose life she has touched.

The funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, December 21, 2017 at HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Continental with Rev. Rick Jensen officiating.  Burial will follow in Monroe Cemetery, Continental.  Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and again for 1 hour prior to the service Thursday at the funeral home.
