Donna Jean McCollum

KALIDA – Donna Jean McCollum, 97, of Kalida, passed away at 10:00 a.m., Sunday, January 4, 2026, at The Meadows of Kalida. She was born March 7, 1928, in Lima to the late Earl and Blanche (Neil) Shirey. On October 5, 1947, she married Robert McCollum, who preceded her in death on November 29, 1978.

Survivors include three children: Linda (Dave) Schimmoeller of Fort Jennings, Roger McCollum of Kalida and Charles McCollum of Columbus Grove; a daughter-in-law, Marilyn McCollum; six grandchildren: Shawn, Keith, Amy, Dean, Doug and Jason; eight great-grandchildren: Logan, Gavin, Dexter, Shane, Hayden, Brooklyn, Brendan and Rosalee; and a sister-in-law: Joyce Shirey of Kalida.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by a son, Dennis McCollum; two brothers: Thomas (Pat) Shirey and Raymond Shirey; and two sisters: Dorothy (Don) Bringman and Margaret (Harry) Schumacher.

Donna retired from St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima after 25 years in medical records. She was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, Kalida. Donna enjoyed crocheting, making quilts, scrubbies and yarn covered hangers, and traveling many places with her friends. She was a huge supporter of Kalida Basketball and loved spending time with her family, especially making homemade noodles and mac and cheese for their special occasions.

The family would like to thank the staff, nurses and aides at The Meadows of Kalida, Putnam County Homecare and Hospice and St. Rita’s Medical Center for their great care of Donna.

Funeral Mass will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 9, 2026, at St. Michael Catholic Church, Kalida with Fr. Joseph Varghese officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. on Friday prior to the service at the church.
