Doris Jean Hawkins
Doris Jean (Cross) Hawkins was born in Charleston WV on October 4th, 1934 to Herman and Nettie (Belle) Cross. She left this earth on November 12th, 2014 to spend the holidays with Jesus. She will be missed by her husband, Charles L. Hawkins, whom she married on May 30th, 1954 and who survives in Continental.
Doris was a dedicated worker for the Campbell Soup Company, from which she retired.
She also left behind three daughters, Diantha (Jim) Henry, Continental, Rosena (Homer) Bush, Continental, and Rebecca(Tim) Brenneman, Gomer. There were two stillborn sons, Jeffery and Steven, to greet her in heaven. Her grandchildren include: Ryan and Morgan Henry, Joshua (Lisa), Sara, Amanda, Terry, Douglas, Ashley, and Dominique Bush, Saunya (Tony) Beck, Nicole (Robert) Vetters, and Steven (Jami) Brenneman. She dearly loved her great-grandchildren: Cody Smith, Shaylee, Shyla, Sharee, and Charlotte Beck, Ryan, Alayna, and Aja Vetters, Nathaniel Brenneman, Brent, Wesley, and Preston Hostettler and great-great- granddaughter, Ella Hostettler. Peggy (Rudy) Mellor, Wooster OH, Sandra (Doug) Jones, Ferrum, VA, and Kathleen (Jim) Grogg, Cleveland WV, were blessed to call her sister. A fourth sister, Margie, passed away in infancy. Her step-father, James Clark Butler, also preceded her in death.
Doris had a great sense of humor, loved flea markets and garage sales, and bingo. She was a member of the Dupont Church of the Brethren.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 15, 2014 at HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Continental with Rev. Terry Porter officiating. Burial will follow in Monroe Cemetery, Continental. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
