Doris Ann Ruen
CONTINENTAL - Doris Ann Ruen, 93, of Continental passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family at 1:25 a.m. on Wednesday, May 20, 2026. She was born on February 10, 1933, to the late Edwin and Leona (Wannemacher) Fenbert. On August 21, 1954, she married James A. Ruen who preceded her in death on December 5, 2024.
She is survived by two daughters: Darlene (Terry) Griffith and Marlene Gyetvai, both of Continental and a bonus son, Joseph (Vickie) Kirk of Continental; five grandchildren: Latimer (Christina) Gyetvai, Erin (Derrick) Noffsinger, Krystal (Nathan) Bowers, Jacob (Jodi) Griffith, and Brandon (Rachelle) Gyetvai and one bonus granddaughter, Billy Jo Mettler; nineteen great grandchildren: Cole, Annika (Caleb Warnimont), Delaney, Rhettik, and Keenan Bowers; Avery, Aislynn, Briggs, and Braelynn Noffsinger; Jackson, Jayla, Jarret, and Joseph Griffith, Lucas and Gavin Gyetvai, and Aiden, Opal, Juniper, and Arlo Gyetvai and her first great-great grandchild is on the way. She is also survived by her sister, Patricia Brickner of Ottawa. She was preceded in death by four brothers-in-law: Clarence “Pee Wee” Ruen, Norbert Ruen, Duane “Skeet” Schreiber, and Andrew Brickner; three sisters-in-law: Constance Schreiber, June Ruen, and Norma Ruen; and a son-in-law: Joseph Gyetvai.
Doris was lovingly known as “Chief” throughout the community. She enjoyed spending time with her family, bossing everyone around, shopping, running the grandkids around town, and cheering them on at their games. In her younger years, she enjoyed bowling and ceramics.
A Funeral Mass will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Continental with Father Joseph Varghese officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday prior to mass at the church.
Memorial donations may be made to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church or the Continental American Legion.
