Dorothy C. Vorst
Kalida-Dorothy C. Vorst 90, of Kalida, died 6:00 a.m., March 11, 2014 at the Putnam County Ambulatory Care Center. She was born June 16, 1923 in Landeck, Ohio to the late Anthony and Elizabeth (Stretker) Schnipke. On June 5, 1946 she married Paul J. Vorst who preceded her in death on January 31, 1984.
She is survived by twelve children: Marianne (Roger) Miller of Ottoville, Norbert (Rosemary) Vorst of Springfield,IL, Angela (Thomas) Unterbrink of Lima, Jane (John) Duling of Columbus Grove, Ron (Carol) Vorst of Anchorage, AK., Dan (Lynn) Vorst of Kalida, Ruth (Alan)  Gerdeman of Kalida, Eileen Vorst of Columbus,  Marlene (Gene) Schmitz of Ottawa, Roger (Dan G.) Vorst of Hollywood, CA., Paul (Kelly) Vorst of Westerville, Gary (Lisa) Vorst of Kalida;  two sisters: Lucille Verhoff of Columbia, SC, and Rose Ann Long of Oakland, TN; 26 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren and two on-the-way. She was preceded in death by a grandson: Jared Paul Vorst; two brothers: Wilfrid Schnipke and Leo Schnipke; and a sister: Sr. Maria Schnipke.
Dorothy was a housewife with a houseful of children to care for. She was a wonderful mother who loved going on trips out west with her husband before he passed away. In her later years she really enjoyed her almost daily visits from her youngest grandchildren, Austin and Jasmine who were a big help to her. She loved working on word search books and reading her bible every day. She will be missed by all her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Dorothy was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, Kalida and its Catholic Ladies of Columbia and Altar Rosary Society.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 15, 2014 at St. Michael Catholic Church, Kalida with Fr. Mark Hoying officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. on Friday at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Jackson Township. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
