Dortha "Jean" Shartzer
OTTAWA - Dortha "Jean" (McBeth-Sanchz) Shartzer, 66, departed this world on Thursday, October 23, 2014 at 2:05 p.m. after a brave and courageous fight with cancer. She won the first battle with cancer but lost the war with the second. Jean was born April 17, 1948 in Wapak. Her father, Lester McBeth and her mother, Betty (Haley) McBeth O'Benour preceded her in death. On October 3, 1998 she married Bob Shartzer and he survives in Ottawa.
Also surviving her children: Darcy (Brent Rogers) Hempker of Kenton, Nino Sanchz of Lima, BJ Shartzer of Ottawa, Kelly (Derek) Jordan of Harrod, Catherine (James) Warren of Columbus, and Pat Harris; 13 grandchildren; 3 sisters: Judy McCoy, Pat (Chester) Barrett and Betty (Bill) Cotterman all of Wapak.
Jean was also preceded in death by a brother: Michael McBeth; a nephew: Michael McBeth, Jr.; a brother-in-law: Gary McCoy; a nephew: Gary McCoy, Jr.; and her rescue dogs: Zoey and Lilly.
Jean graduated from Perry High School in 1966 and got her law degree in 1986 form ONU. She had offices in Lima and Ottawa for 18 years and was well respected. She was a member of Allen and Putnam County Bar Association and American Trial Lawyers Association. Jean loved animals and was a member of ASPCA and a member of Leipsic Fish and Game Club. She enjoyed gardening and became a Master Gardener.
A Funeral Service will be held 6:00 p.m. Monday, October 27, 2014 at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa with Rev. Marshall Metzger officiating. Visitation will be from 4:30 to 6:00p.m. on Monday before the service at the funeral home. A gathering and celebration of life will follow at the Leipsic Fishing and Hunting Association, 10605 County Road H, Ottawa, OH
