Doyle R. Elkins
KALIDA – Doyle Richard Elkins, 75, of Kalida, passed away on December 21, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on March 6, 1950, in Lima, Ohio to the late Cecil and Lillian (Myers) Elkins. Doyle was one of ten children. On September 15, 1972, he married the love of his life, Katheryn "Kathy" Colleen Epps, who preceded him in death on March 14, 2022.
Doyle is survived by two sons: Darrin Elkins of Kalida, Loren (Amanda Bush) Elkins of Shawnee; two daughters: Erica (Phillip) Tucker, and Andrea (Brian) Hammond, both of Kalida; seven grandchildren: Ansley Elkins, Camryn Elkins, Taylor Tucker, Brooke Tucker, Gage Hammond, Lucas Hammond and Cullen Hammond; and eight siblings: Paul Elkins of Lima, Larry Elkins of Continental, Gary Elkins of Cecil, Ila (Craig) Combs of Continental, Lovella (Thomas) Wehri of Continental, Joyce (Steve) Cavanaugh and Shanda (Dave) Tonjes, both of Defiance, and Nancy (Greg) Schnipke of Miller City.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Katheryn, a son, Troy Elkins, and a brother, Darrell Elkins.
Doyle was a 1968 graduate of Continental High School. After graduation, Doyle went on to earn his associate's degree. He was a veteran of the Army National Guard. He retired from General Motors on January 1, 2015, with an impressive 51.6 years of credited service. Doyle was a member of Dupont Church of the Brethren.
Doyle was kind to everyone he met. He loved tinkering in his barns and working on cars. He enjoyed working on projects with his children and loved supporting his grandchildren in their sports and activities. Doyle had many passions including gardening, deer hunting, fishing, listening to 60's music, and playing cards, especially euchre. Camping was by far his favorite pastime, creating countless cherished memories with his family.
Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 27, 2025, at Dupont Church of the Brethren with Pastor Soloman Okang officiating. Visitation will be held on Saturday beginning at 10:30 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Love-Heitmeyer Funeral Home, Jackson Township.
Memorial donations may be made to Putnam County Council on Aging.
