Doyle A. Wittler

FORT JENNINGS – Doyle A. Wittler, 72, of Fort Jennings died Monday morning, December 7, 2020 at his residence.  He was born December 4, 1948 in Fort Jennings to the late Elmer and Lucille "Lucy" (Kemper) Wittler.  On September 2, 1972 he married Doris Hasenkamp, who survives in Fort Jennings.

He is also survived by 4 children:  Jeffrey (Joan) Wittler, Laura (Michael) Hutt, Scott (Jennifer) Wittler and Tricia (Aaron) Halker; 7 grandchildren:  Ava Wittler, Erin (Brian) McClanahan, Ryan, Connor and Summer Wittler, Lauryn and Jacob Halker ; and 2 sisters:  Carol (Dave) Giesken and Marilyn (Rodney Oiler) Allen; sisters-in-law: Therese Gasser and Martha (Thomas) Gasser; brothers-in-law: Thomas (Donna) Hasenkamp, James (Angie) Hasenkamp and Kenneth (Mary Kay) Hasenkamp; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Doyle is preceded in death by his step-father:  Robert F. Lammers; father-in-law: Paul Hasenkamp; mother-in-law: Bernadette Hasenkamp; brother-in-law: James Gasser; nephew: Michael Gasser; and great-nephew: Daryl Etzkorn.

Doyle retired from General Motors Central Foundry in Defiance, he was a part-time barber at Don's Barber Shop in Fort Jennings for many years.  He recently worked part-time at Ron's Hair Care in Delphos.  Doyle was maintenance and hall manager at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Fort Jennings.  He was a lifetime member of the Ottoville VFW Post 3740 and a lifetime member of the Fort Jennings American Legion Post 715, where he was Post Commander for ten years.  He put in a lot of time helping with maintenance at the Fort Jennings American Legion.  He had planned many trips over the years for the Fort Jennings American Legion Post 715.

Doyle was a US Army veteran of the Vietnam War where he was awarded the Bronze Star.  He thoroughly enjoyed "critiquing" Ohio sports teams and guarding the TV remote.  He loved spending time with the grandkids, especially having them help feed his fish in the pond.

Doyle's funeral mass will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 19, 2020 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Fort Jennings with Father Charles Obinwa officiating.  Burial will follow at the church cemetery with military rites by the Fort Jennings American Legion and Ottoville VFW.  A visitation will be Friday, December 18, 2020 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Jackson Township and Saturday 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the church.  Due to restrictions regarding COVID-19, masks and social distancing are required upon entering the funeral home and church.
