Duane Thomas Dearth
LEIPSIC – Duane Thomas Dearth, 90, of Leipsic, passed away Friday, January 26, 2024 at The Villages in the Meadows of Leipsic.
Duane was born June 22, 1933, a mile west of Gilboa, Ohio, to Cornelius and Doris (Eck) Dearth. On October 14, 1957, he married Audrey Jean Arrington, she preceded him in death on January 15, 1986. On November 30, 1990, he married Mary Stainbrook, she survives in Leipsic.
Duane is also survived by a daughter: Linda (Tony) England of Findlay; two sons: Steve Dearth of Findlay, and Scott Dearth of Arlington, TX.; stepchildren: Dennis (Cindy) Stainbrook of Ottawa, Dawn (Cody) McCullough of Pandora, Terry Stainbrook of Ottawa, Gary (Wendy) Stainbrook of Fort Mills, SC.; eighteen grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Betty Simon and Jean Fields.
He is preceded in death by two stepchildren: Gail (Stainbrook) Morris and Bruce Stainbrook; one brother: Larry Dearth; and three sisters: Ann Huser, Ellen McCullough and Doris Herr.
Duane proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1954 – 1958. He was a faithful member of the Gilboa Methodist Church. Duane and Mary traveled across the southwest U.S. in their retirement years, settling as snowbirds on the Florida Gulf Coast. He enjoyed gardening and had a green thumb.
Funeral services will begin at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 10, 2024 at HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, 916 East Main St., Ottawa with Pastor Ruth Carter-Crist officiating. Burial will follow in Harman Cemetery, Gilboa with military rites by the Gilboa Legion. A visitation will be held on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
