Dwain F. Hohman

OTTAWA - Dwain F. Hohman, 85, of Ottawa, passed away at 3:55 a.m. on January 26, 2024, at the Meadows of Ottawa.  He was born April 30, 1938, in Tiffin to the late Joseph and Margaret (Borer) Hohman.  On November 26, 1960, he married Barbara Welborn, who survives in Ottawa.

Dwain is survived by four children:  Pam (Dan) Coonfare of Hilliard, Randy (Jody) Hohman of Defiance, Jodi (Martin) Schroeder of Ottawa, and Dee (Bill) Berger of Leipsic; fourteen grandchildren:  Heather (Joe) Usner, Olivia Coonfare, Megan (John) Trehan, Amanda (Brad) Schroeder, Alicia (Hayden) Brown, Natalie Hohman, Kirstie (Shaun) Mack, Dalton (Ashlee) Hall, Breanne (David) Schroeder, Tyler (Lyndsey) Schroeder, Alexa (Dustin Shope H oward) Schroeder, Austin (Amie Schroeder) Schroeder, Jordan Berger, and Ashley Berger; nineteen great-grandchildren:  Lola Usner, Haley Miller, Maddie Schroeder, Reid Schroeder, Jenna Trehan, Emily Trehan, Cara Trehan, Mason Trehan, Cooper Brown, Logan Brown, Jace Brown, Kyan Ankney, Mia Mack, Sadie Mack, Micah Hall, Liam Schroeder, Evelyn Schroeder, Olivia Schroeder, and Owen Schroeder; sisters:  Patricia Briggs and Sharon Williamson, both of California; and a sister-in-law:  Tere-le Hohman of California.

He is preceded in death by two grandsons, Nathan, and Ryan Schroeder; a sister, Margie Friemoth; two brothers, Joseph (Nan) Hohman, and Robert Hohman; and a brother-in-law, Ross Briggs.

Dwain was a retired Ohio Highway Patrolman "Softshoe".  He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa, as well as the Ottawa American Legion, Ottawa Lions Club, and the Putnam County Police Officers Association. Dwain also served as a Juvenile Probation Officer for Putnam County.  He served in the United States Navy from 1956 to 1960.  He enjoyed golfing, fishing, guns, and race cars.  Dwain also enjoyed poker and played at a Monday night card club.

Funeral Mass will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, January 29, 2024, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa with Fr. Scott Kramer officiating. A military service will take place following Mass at the church. Burial will take place at a later date at Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. with a scripture service at 6:50 p.m. and again on Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa.
