Earl E. Goodwin
LEIPSIC - Earl E. Goodwin, 83, of Leipsic, died at 8:31 a.m. Saturday, November 16, 2013 at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima. He was born July 20, 1930 in Leipsic to the late Francis and Gladys (Eicher) Goodwin. On June 29, 1952, he married Elsie Kern and she survives in Leipsic.
Also surviving are 2 children: Pamela (Jeff) Oglesbee of Columbus Grove and David (Elaine) Goodwin of Leipsic; 6 grandchildren: Mathew (Sherri) Oglesbee, Michael (Ginger) Oglesbee, Jason (Amanda) Goodwin, Neil (Amanda) Goodwin, Brian Goodwin and Emily Goodwin; 7 great-grandchildren and a brother: Roy (Nancy) Goodwin of Leipsic.
Earl retired after 37 years as a mail carrier in Leipsic with the US Postal Service. He was a Navy Veteran; a member of Oakdale United Methodist Church; served 20 years on the Leipsic School Board; active for more than 30 years with the Boy Scouts. He became an Eagle Scout in 1964 and the same year was Scout Master for National Jamboree. He was Scout Master for Leipsic Troop 272, led 3 treks to Philmont Scout Ranch; was a staff member at Camp Berry for 15 years and served many years promoting "Friends of Berry" in Findlay; was awarded the Silver Beaver Award. Earl was a Sunday School Teacher at Leipsic United Methodist Church and served many years as the Methodist summer camp councilor. Earl was an avid woodworker who enjoyed making violins, clocks and several types of furniture.
Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at Love-Heitmeyer Funeral Home, Leipsic with Reverend Tom Graves. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and one hour prior to service on Wednesday at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Leipsic. Burial will follow in Sugar Ridge Cemetery with military rites by the Leipsic VFW and American Legion.
